How to Break in a New Art Journal

Bypass the Blank Page and Enjoy your New Art Journal

Setting up a new art journal can be a fun and rewarding experience. In the video series below, I'll show you how I setup one of my art journals. Please work with what you have, you don't need to buy anything, use your creativity to make this journal your own.

Breaking in Your New Journal

For this video I'm using a Dylusions Creative Journal, but you can use any journal you want. Some of the things I do won't apply to spiral bound journals, but you can just omit this. The idea here is to break your new journal in and start creating space inside the pages.

Let's Make some Collage Papers

To truly make this journal your own, you'll want to have fun making your own collage papers. These are one of my favorite journal resources. This step is of course completely optional, but try it, you might just fall in love with this as I have.

Collage Paper Background Pages

Time to take those fabulous papers and create some truly one-of-a-kind pages for your journal.

Scrappy Pages

This is by far the simplest page cover technique so far, but these pages can act as a spring board for all the pervious ones.  As a BONUS, I share with you my new secret page drying method!
